Graduate Student Admission Criteria
We are pleased for your interest in our Masters Program. Before being considered for admission, every applicant must meet the minimum requirements given below. However, satisfying the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission. Admission to Classified Standing (Domestic)
Applicants seeking admission to the Masters Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at San Diego State University must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for admission with classified standing:
- Bachelors degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program in the USA.
- A grade point average of 3.0 (based on 4.0 scale) or higher in the last 60 semester (90 quarter) units of technical course work
- Achieve a minimum GRE scores: verbal : 350 and Quantitative : 600
Admission to Classified Graduate Standing (Foreign)
Applicants seeking admission to the Masters Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at San Diego State University must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for admission with classified standing:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering from a recognized engineering program.
- An equivalent grade point average of 3.0 (based on 4.0 scale) or higher in the all technical course work.
- Achieve a minimum GRE scores: verbal : 350 and Quantitaive : 600
- Achieve a minimum of TOEFL score of 550(paper based) or 213 (computer based) or 80 (Internet based)
Admission to Conditionally Classified Graduate Standing (Domestic and Foreign)
1. Applicants who have received BS degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering from an accredited engineering program with a grade point average less than 3.0 but higher than 2.85 may be considered for conditional admission. They are designated as Conditionally Classified Students. The conditions usually involve completing a specified set of graduate courses at SDSU with a grade of B or above. The students can petition for classified standing after successfully satisfying these conditions. Once classified, these courses will count towards their MS degree unit requirements.
2. Applicants who have received BS degree in field related to Electrical or Computer Engineering with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the last 60 units and satisfy GRE and /or TOEFL requirements may be admitted to conditional status. The conditions may involve not only taking graduate courses but also some undergraduate courses. Undergraduate courses will not be counted towards MS degree.
Letters of recommendation
Although letters of recommendation are not required, they can be helpful in evaluating the application. Send your recommendation letters directly to the Office of Admissions and Records with your application by the appropriate deadline.
