Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT ARE THE GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS FOR AN EE AND CompE MAJORS?
In addition to the technical courses required to earn a BS Degree, there are also general education courses, which are summarized in the Electrical Engineering section of the SDSU Catalog. A brochure on these requirements is available from the advising center in the Student Services building.

WHAT IS THE MASTER PLAN?  WHEN SHOULD I FILE THE MASTER PLAN?
The master plan lists all the technical courses that will be taken to satisfy the requirements for the BSEE/CompE degree. Filing the master plan is part of the course requirements for EE310 and EE330. One or both of these courses is normally taken the first semester of your junior year; therefore, your master plan should be filed before the last week of the course.

CAN I CHANGE MY MASTER PLAN?
You can change the electives on your master plan simply by filling out a Request for Adjustment of Academic Requirements. Requested adjustments must be approved by the department chair. Approval is routine if all degree requirements are met.

CAN I EARN COURSE CREDIT BY EXAMINATION?
Refer to page 133 of the General Catalog

HOW AM I ASSIGNED AN ADVISER?
You are assigned an advisor according to your last name. Check with the ECE Department office. The adviser who signs on your master plan will be your adviser for the remainder of your college career. You should see your advisor regularly regarding any problems or questions.

HOW SHOULD I GAUGE MY COURSE LOAD TO PREVENT OVERLOAD?
ECE courses are very demanding and require at least two hours of outside study for every hour of lecture time. To prevent overload, multiply the number of units taken by 3 and add result to the number of hours per week of employment. The total should NOT EXCEED 50.

WHAT CAN I DO TO SUCCEED IN THIS PROGRAM?
The best suggestions are to be persistent, ask questions, join study groups, and above all else, do not fall behind!
