MyMap, Master Plans, Change of Major

MyMaps

The MyMap is a guideline created to help students navigate the course requirements for their majors and to identify which General Education course will also fulfill a major preparation course requirement. Students should take the courses in the order they are in on the MyMap. The prerequisite(s) for any course must be taken prior to registering for the course unless it specifically says you can take the prerequisite concurrently with the course.

To view current and previous MyMaps please visit MyMap at http://www.sdsu.edu/mymap for the recommended courses needed to fulfill your major requirements.

Prerequisites for the Major

The electrical engineering and computer engineering majors are impacted programs. To be admitted to the electrical engineering major, students must meet the following criteria:

All prerequisites must be taken for a letter grade and cannot be taken for Cr/NC.

Complete with a grade C (2.0) or higher:

  • Computer Engineering 160
  • Electrical Engineering 210
  • Mathematics 150, 151
  • Physics 195, 196, 196L

Have an overall cumulative GPA of:

  • 2.1 for catalog years prior to 2015
  • 2.5 for catalog years 2015-Spring 2017
  • 2.7 for Fall 2017 and thereafter

To complete the major, students must fulfill the degree requirements for the major described in the catalog in effect at the time they are accepted into the premajor at SDSU (assuming continuous enrollment).

Master Plans

The master plan provides an advising record and a roadmap toward graduation for electrical engineering and computer engineering majors. The master plan must be filed electronically with the department advisers (https://csse.sdsu.edu/advising/advising). All students transferring from another institution are required to file the master plan at the time of transfer. Current SDSU students are required to file the master plan as part of their course requirements in COMPE 160. Students are encouraged to seek the guidance of their advisers when completing the master plan. If there is any change to the course sequence listed in the master plan that is already on file, it must be updated and refiled. All students must have an updated master plan on file in the department prior to enrollment in E E 410 and COMPE 491W / EE491W. All course substitutions must be approved by the department chair prior to enrolling in the course.

Change of Major

If you wish to change to the major status in EE or COMPE from another major, pre-major, or undeclared status, you will need to satisfy the requirements provided here: Criteria for Change to Major Status in Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering
