WiNC Lab  in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at San Diego State University is  thrilled to announce that Mr. Hamed Mojtahed, our Engineering  Ph.D. student in the SDSU-UCSD Joint Doctoral Program (JDP), has received the Best Paper Award at the IEEE ECBIOS 2024 conference.

Hamed's paper, titled "A Deep Learning Approach for Heart Rate Variability Error Correction," introduces a novel method to enhance the accuracy of heart rate variability (HRV) measurements, a critical indicator of cardiovascular health and autonomic nervous system function. Hamed's research leverages the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and deep learning to correct errors in RR-interval series, which are often affected by noise in wearable devices. The study demonstrates that this new approach significantly outperforms traditional methods in reconstructing accurate HRV parameters, providing more reliable data for medical diagnostics.

This achievement highlights innovative contributions to the field of engineering applied to health sciences. Hamed's advisor - Dr. Mahasweta Sarkar - would like to congratulate Hamed and extend her sincere thanks to co-advisors, Dr. Ramesh Rao and Dr. Christopher Paolini, whose guidance was instrumental in this success.
