An interdisciplinary Senior Design Project Team consisting of ME students: Matthew Gonzalez, David Bunson, Krysta Rhodes, Jesus Figueroa; and ECE students: Jonathan Maravilla, Alan Clemenson, Brandon Mosburg, Ryan Marmion, and Humood Alghunaim as team members, is one of 12 teams from around the country selected to be semi-finalists in the NASA Moon to Mars Prospecting Challenge.

The J.R. Filanc Construction Engineering and Management (CEM) Program, which is part of the College of Engineering, is excited to offer the new Construction Management major in addition to the ABET-accredited and well-established Construction Engineering major, which will start in Fall 2021.

We are pleased to announce that Peggy (BSEE 1985) and Eric Johnson (MSEE 1986) have made a $3,100,000 gift to name and endow the fred harris Chair in Digital Signal Processing (DSP).

Dr. Matthew Verbyla (Environmental Eng.) and Lorelay Mendoza (B.S. Environmental Eng., class of 2019) recently published a paper in Environmental Engineering Science journal entitled Environmental Engineering for the 21st Century: Increasing Diversity and Community Participation to Achieve Environmental and Social Justice.

With such extensive impacts, COVID-19 awareness and understanding among the public has increased, while skepticism declined. SDSU scientists weigh in on the shift.

The College of Engineering is pleased to announce that Alfredo Aldrete (BSEE 97’) and Sandra P. Aldrete (BSME 97’) have made a gift to establish the “Alfredo Aldrete and Sandra Pulido Aldrete MESA Endowed Scholarship” for Engineering.

Dr. Sarkar, professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has been awarded a fellowship under the Fulbright Specialist program, established by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA). This program pairs highly qualified U.S. academics and professionals with host institutions abroad to share their expertise, strengthen institutional linkages, hone their skills, gain international experience, and learn about other cultures while building capacity at their overseas host institutions. Fulbright Specialists, who represent a wide range of professional and academic disciplines, are competitively selected to join the Fulbright Specialist Roster based on their knowledge, skill sets, and ability to make a significant contribution to projects in foreign host institutions in over 150 countries. Once abroad, Specialists partner with their host institution to conduct project activities in support of the host institution’s priorities and goals. Dr. Sarkar’s Fulbright fellowship will commence in Fall 2021 and will span three academic years.

On October 14, 2020, the SDSU Femineer® Program and Women in Engineering Program had their second WE Chat of the semester featuring Dr. Thais Alves from the Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering Department, speaking on the topic, "Be yourself, everyone else is already taken."

Faculty from all seven of SDSU's colleges have rose to the occasion during the global COVID-19 pandemic. In dozens of projects, researchers are analyzing how COVID-19 operates and spreads, how the pandemic affects our mental health and how communities are coping in the midst of crisis.

The SDSU Women in Engineering Program and the College of Engineering Femineer® Program kicked off International Day of the Girl week with a STEM Talk featuring Motorola Solutions. The STEM Talk was held on October 9, 2020, and engaged over 40 participants consisting of high school and college-level students, educators, and Motorola engineers.
